As everyone knows, the warm summer sun tends to get people out of their homes a lot more. With summer now just a few short weeks away, you’re likely going to see more seniors out and about, which is always a good thing.
However, as a leader in senior care in San Angelo, TX we are well aware that summer is not without its dangers for the elderly. In fact, in the upcoming months it will be more important than ever to make sure that your loved ones take good care of their skin to avoid problems that can come from too much sun exposure.
Countless people develop various skin conditions every year during summer and that’s something everybody should try to avoid. Unfortunately, seniors are particularly susceptible to developing these types of problems so special care must be taken to ensure that doesn’t happen.
For one, senior care specialists recommend staying indoors while the sun burns bright outside to avoid harmful UV radiation. Generally speaking, between 10 AM and 4 PM is when radiation levels are at their peak. A short walk outside during these hours is not likely to cause major problems but spending a lot of time in the sun is not recommended.
Instead, elders should preferably only go outside after 4 PM and make a few preparations in the meantime. The most important aspect to consider is proper hydration. Senior care specialists recommend drinking sufficient amounts of water every day in order to keep the skin healthy. In addition, it’s very helpful to use moisturizing creams, cleansers, and other skin care products before going outside.
Speaking of going outside, elders should under no circumstances wander outside without sunscreen. Older skin can get easily damaged by the intense summer sun and sunscreen is one of the best ways of protecting one’s skin.
Seniors who adhere to these skin-care tips are bound to have a nice and healthy skin throughout the summer!
